How to Operate the Brake of a Brushless DC Motor

Feb 01, 2022

A brushless DC motor refers to a rotating electrical machine that can convert DC electrical energy into mechanical energy or convert mechanical energy into DC electrical energy. It is a motor that can realize the mutual conversion of DC electric energy and mechanical energy. When it operates as a motor, it is a DC motor, which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy; when it operates as a generator, it is a DC generator, which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. During operation, sometimes braking is required for production, so how does the braking of the motor operate?

1. The electromagnetic brake is to lock the shaft of the brushless DC motor through a mechanical device, and the motor shaft and the brake are locked by the power-off brake.

2. High-level braking makes the current of the brushless DC motor reverse instantaneously.

3. Regenerative braking means that the energy generated by the braking is fed back to the DC bus through the inverter circuit when the motor decelerates or stops, and is absorbed by the resistance-capacitance circuit. The regenerative braking can only work when the servo is working normally. In this case, the brushless DC motor cannot be braked, and the work is carried out automatically by the system.
